Kinja'd!!!4 Kinja'd!!! 55

I never dreamed that I could actually top the amazing deal I got on the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! from XJDano, but somehow I have. This week, possibly as soon as tomorrow, I will be trading an approximately 4' long piece of I-beam that has been sitting in my garage for years, for a running driving vehicle with a clean title. It is a vehicle that some of you know I am not particularly fond of. Here’s a hint:

Kinja'd!!!

The only catch was that it is under no uncertain terms, not allowed to live at my house. Frankly, I cannot blame my wife there. As it would really be in the way. Fortunately both of my main partners in crime gave me an instant yes, when I inquired about storing another vehicle for us to send to Valhalla on their property.

UPDATE : Rusty Vandura got it. It’s a ‘99 F-150 extended cab, 8' bed, with the 5.4L V8, 196k miles, and leaky power steering.

Trading 4' of old I-beam for a big bag of jellybeans would be a good deal; for a running, driving car I am not sure what to think. Someone must have really wanted rid of a car.

From your “filed to” we know it’s a ford and it has to do with jelly beans; the most jelly-bean fords that immediately come to mind are a 90's mustang, a probe, or perhaps a bubble-taurus... or a mid 90's f150 , but that seems less rally-like.

Hopefully not with the V-6; unless they made corrections, the early V-6s in those trucks were a disaster.

Is it standard cab or extra cab? 8-foot bed or 6-foot?

Should be relatively cheap and easy to beef up the suspension, or repair it... I don’t think there’s much in the way of performance mods for the 5.4, but shorter rear end gearing and traction lock would be a must. You could probably pick up a used rear end for a few hundred dollars.

Not the optimal rally configuration. Maybe now you can flip/swap it for a standard cab 6-foot bed; did they make  a six-foot bed?  I hear you on the spending zero dollars, but I’d want the optimal rear axle just for the FUN aspect.

There will be no flipping. I’m being given this truck to give it a proper sendoff, and send it off I shall!

It may have a locking rear end already, I honestly have no idea.

I hope it does! I request all of the information, color? , trim level? 4x4? The extended cab 8 footers are long bios, that’ll be fun to hang the rear end out on.

And of course, if you have any questions or problems I’m intimately familiar with these trucks and happy to help.

No locking rears, or even limited slips in ‘99. Limited slip was introduced in ‘02 with the introduction of the FX4 package. FX4 stayed limited slip until ‘09 when they went to an E-locker.

Turns out I was wrong. LSD was an option apparently but I couldn’t find a lot of info on them and the only identifier for them is the axle tag so it’s not easy to tell. The ‘02 FX4 just made it a standard feature.
